Laurel was born and raised on a mixed farm along the edge of the Qu’Appelle Valley west of Regina, Saskatchewan.

She attributes her prairie roots and farm upbringing to building her strength of observation, as well as her success in developing a reputation as a representational artist of landscape, buildings, flora, and fauna.  Laurel has always had an interest in learning through personal trial and error, thus is largely a self-taught artist.

In July 2006, Laurel retired after 30 years working for the University of Saskatchewan to concentrate on her art.  Over the years, she has completed numerous commissioned pieces and held over thirty solo exhibitions as well as participating in group shows and sales.

Travelling has influenced her art, and she has sold artwork locally, nationally, and internationally.  Laurel enjoys supporting charity fundraisers and great causes.

Laurel and her husband spent four years in Victoria which provided new scenery to paint and opportunities to share her art. However, the Prairies and home were calling, and they happily returned in the Spring of 2023.

A few of Laurel's paintings can now been viewed at Dandelion Art Framing & Gallery, 2207 1st Ave N., Saskatoon.

Extensive travel has influenced her work including artist residencies at Kenderdine campus, and trips to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the United States, and many countries in Europe as well as all the Canadian Provinces.
